‘How to do a tackle’ & what happens when you ‘do’ it wrong
Despite the dodgy name this video is a good introduction to the best part of Rugby; TACKLING!. It provides a simple overview of the basic technique and should help anyone just getting started with the sport.
Importantly, I would add that you should make sure your head is behind the opponent’s body when you tackle, not across it. Check out what happens to Lee Halfpenny when he gets his head in the wrong position against Kurtley Beale (skip to 1:00 in).
(We still love you Lee- if you don’t know who is he then type his name into youtube to see one of the best fullbacks in the world right now in action)
What I learnt at school was:
1) ‘cheek to cheek’- your face on their bum-cheek
2) ‘ring of steel’ – lock your arms around their legs
3) ‘leg drive’ – keep your momentum going in the same direction and they will fall.
More video’s to come, on more advanced talking.
