Classic Compound: The Squat
The squat is a beast of an exercise. Not only will it help turn those twiglet legs into tree trunks but, as a compound exercise, it requires the use muscle groups from across the whole body, helping to build a good base of all round strength. The need to keep the chest upright throughout the motion helps develop core strength, and you’ll even notice your traps starting to bulge when keeping your elbows pointing at the floor and having that heavy arse weight resting on them.
Making sure you perform the exercise with good form is vitally important to ensure injury prevention and efficient strength development. Mark Ripptoe knows what he’s doing, so take heed.
